Open BuildIT online permitting system
Instructions for using BuildIT online permitting system [pdf/6p]
The permit office will be closed on Wednesday, July 11, from 11:30 a.m until 1:30 p.m. Staff will not be available to accept permit applications, issue permits or receive phone calls during this time. Sorry for any inconvenience.
The Inspections Division of the Planning and Development Services Department activated in February 2017 a new online permitting system called BuildIT. A map-based solution, BuildIT offers more flexibility and ease-of-use than the previous online system, InspectNet.
BuildIT cannot be used to apply for a building (construction) permit.
BuildIT allows licensed contractors to apply for trade permits (Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical/HVAC).
The system allows two levels of access: Guest and Contractor
Guest: Anyone may access the BuildIT system as a guest without creating a login/account. Guest access allows you to search for permits, view the status of a plan review, view the status of a permit, view inspection comments, and make payments by credit card on any permit. Guests are not able to schedule inspections or apply for trade permits.
Step-by-Step Videos for BuildIT Guest:
Make a Payment
Contractor: Licensed contractors with a Contractor ID are able to apply for trade permits, view the status of permits, schedule inspections and pay permit and other inspection fees. We have only created Contractor IDs in BuildIT for contractors who have an active state license or bond/escrow account and have open permits or recently purchased permits. If you are not able to “Activate” your Contractor ID using the "Forgot Password" function, please call our Customer Service line at 336-727-2624.
Step-by-Step Videos for BuildIT Contractors:
Activate Account (Contractor ID Required)
Schedule an Inspection

Please note that you must be a Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical or Refrigeration contractor in order to schedule your own inspections or to purchase permits via BuildIT.
General contractors can schedule inspections, but cannot purchase building permits using BuildIT- you must come into our office to purchase your building permit.
