City Attorney - June 20, 2014

City representatives will hold an information meeting Thursday, June 26, to explain the process the city must follow when considering special use permits for cell towers. The meeting will be held from 7 to 8:15 p.m. in the Bolton Home & Garden Building at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds. Enter through gate 9 on Coliseum Drive.

There will be no discussion of any proposed cell towers with permit applications currently under consideration.

Topics will include:

  • A summary of the city ordinance adopted earlier this year governing where cell towers may be placed, the regulations on how they may be designed, and the approval process.
  • Steps for considering and approving new cell towers on residentially zoned land.
  • Special procedures that affected property owners, citizens and City Council members must follow as special use permits for proposed cell towers in residential zoning districts work their way through the process.
  • Limitations on information that can be considered, testimony that can be given, and findings that serve as the basis for any decision to approve or deny special use permits for cell towers.
