The Human Relations Department has received a $53,500 federal grant through the Fair Housing Assistance Program to hire an intake specialist to provide fair housing education an outreach activities related to new fair housing guidance by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The grant is part of the $7.5 million in grants that HUD awarded to state and local government agencies that enforce fair housing laws to promote HUD’s new Equal Access to Housing regulation, which ensures that HUD housing and programs are open to all families, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status.

The intake specialist will conduct fair housing education and outreach activities with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT), new immigrant, and victims of domestic violence populations of Winston-Salem; develop new and update existing training documents; and conduct a media campaign to publicize new HUD fair housing guidance.
