The Human Relations Department is co-sponsoring a day-long Newcomers Symposium on Thursday, Nov. 8, for agencies throughout North Carolina that assist immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. The symposium will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Benton Convention Center.
The symposium will provide updates on issues and trends on services and policy regarding immigrants and refugees, and allow agency representatives to share best practices and network with each other.
Breakout sessions will cover such topics as key legal issues for newcomers, human trafficking in North Carolina, scams and other newcomer vulnerabilities, fair housing law as it applies to national origin and more.
Registration is $50 and includes lunch, or $70 to receive continuing education credit. The deadline to register is Nov. 7. To register and for more information go to WSBIC.com.
