Police Department Conducting Resident Opinion Survey

As part of its reaccreditation process, the Winston-Salem Police Department is asking citizens to participate in a voluntary online survey about the department. The survey takes about five minutes to complete and will be posted from Sept. 10 through Oct. 1 on the Police Department's home page,, and the city's home page,

The survey solicits feedback on interactions with department personnel, to include overall agency performance, overall competence of the agency employees, perception of officers’ attitudes and behaviors, community concerns over safety and security and recommendations for improvements. READ MORE

Mayor Joines Announces Citywide "Think Orange" Campaign to Combat Hunger

Mayor Allen Joines and leaders of other government, non-profit and faith organizations announced today a major citywide campaign, called "Think Orange," to combat hunger and food insecurity in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County.

The Winston-Salem metropolitan statistical area ranks seventh on a national list of MSAs with the highest rate of food hardship, according to the Food Action & Research Center. This is based on the center's "How Hungry is America?" report, which contains data for every state, the District of Columbia and 108 metropolitan statistical areas for 2016–2017.

Partnering with the city for the campaign are the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, the Winston-Salem Urban League, Ezekiel A.M.E. Zion Church, H.O.P.E. of Winston-Salem, and Cobblestone Farmers Market. READ MORE

September Is Preparedness Month

With school back in session and the peak of hurricane season approaching, the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Office of Emergency Management is encouraging residents and businesses to review and discuss their emergency plans during North Carolina Preparedness Month. Families and businesses should make and rehearse plans for where to go and what to do if a disaster strikes. The plan should include details about where to meet, how to get in touch with one another, evacuation plans, what to do with pets and how to notify employers/employees after an emergency. READ MORE

Mayor Joines, Chief Trey Mayo and Council Members Tayor, Larson and MacIntosh uncouple hose

Fire Station No. 7 Renovations Complete

The city celebrated completion of the addition and renovations to Fire Station No. 7 with a "hose-uncoupling" ceremony and open house on Tuesday, Aug. 14. The fire station now has a new truck bay has been built to accommodate today’s larger fire trucks. The old truck bay has been converted into updated living spaces. The total project budget was $2.16 million, including $2 million that voters approved in the November 2014 bond referendum.
