Performance and Accountability - June 29, 2017
Copies of the city’s updated strategic plan -- the "road map" that will guide city initiatives for the coming four years, are available for citizens to review at all city recreation centers and all branches of the Forsyth County Public Library within the city limits.
The City Council adopted the strategic plan for the years 2017-2021 in May. It reaffirmed six focus areas for city government that were identified in the previous strategic plan adopted in 2013. Under each focus area the plan identifies objectives, as well as short-term and mid-term priorities.
For example, under the "Safe and Secure Community" focus area, the council adopted four objectives: Expand community policing, reduce crime and fear of crime, improve public safety service quality, and enhance fire prevention programs. To accomplish these objectives the plan lists 10 priorities, ranging from expanding police and fire community engagement, ranked as the top priority, to evaluating fire operations training facility needs, ranked tenth.
The other focus areas are Economic Vitality and Diversity, Healthy Environment, Livable Neighborhoods, Quality Transportation, and Service Excellence. In total, the plan identifies 30 objectives and 55 priorities across the six focus areas. The plan also lists specific action items for the city staff to undertake for each priority.
The plan is also posted on the Strategic Planning page of the city’s website, CityofWS.org.
