Mayor Allen Joines is accepting applications from city residents interested in serving on the Community Sustainability Program Committee, which the City Council voted to re-establish during its meeting Sept. 17.
The committee will advise the city's Office of Sustainability on current and future sustainability goals and on ways to improve the city's Star Communities Rating. The committee also will oversee the city's Bee City USA activities, monitor the city’s greenhouse gas emissions and produce an annual report.
The committee will have ten members representing each ward and local universities. The committee membership should include individuals with backgrounds in business, industry, architecture/construction, transportation, energy, and the environment.
Mayor Joines is also accepting applications from city residents interested in serving on these boards and commissions:
- Minority/Women's Business Enterprise Advisory Committee
- Winston-Salem Affordable Housing Coalition
- Winston-Salem Transit Authority
- Human Relations Commission
- Zoning Board of Adjustment
Applications are available through the Boards and Commissions link at Mayor.CityofWS.org, or by calling the Mayor's Office at 336-727-2058. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. Nov. 12 for consideration during the Jan. 21 meeting of the City Council. Otherwise, applications can be submitted at any time.
