The Honor Guard Unit consists of members from various squads and divisions of the Winston-Salem Police Department. The Honor Guard Unit seeks to respectfully and considerately provide tribute and appreciation to those who selflessly give to others in the field of Public Safety.
In addition to their regular assignments, the members of the Honor Guard Unit volunteer their time to take on the task of memorializing Police, Fire and Military service and sacrifice at approximately 70 ceremonies each year. These ceremonies consist of presenting colors, funeral details, playing taps, singing the National Anthem, and Fallen Officer Ceremonies for anniversary dates for the Winston-Salem Police Department's fallen officers.
The Honor Guard Unit often works with other agencies for local, state and national events throughout the year. Honor Guard's major events each year include September 11th memorials and attendance at National Police Week in May, held in Washington, DC.
