Police Department News

The Winston-Salem Police Department is pleased to announce the expansion of our Pharmaceutical Drug Disposal Program, commonly known as Operation Medicine Drop. Since its beginning in October of 2016, the WSPD has collected and destroyed over 372 pounds of un-needed or expired pharmaceutical pills. This has helped to prevent misuse of medicines, accidental overdoses and needless contamination of our natural resources.

In addition to the drop-box located at the Public Safety Center, drop-boxes are now located at each of the three district offices.

Citizens may anonymously drop off un-needed or expired pills at any of the drop-box locations during normal business hours, (Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. excluding holidays).

We will accept pills, blister packs and pharmaceutical powders at the following locations:

  • Public Safety Center, 725 N. Cherry St., W-S, NC 27101
  • District One Office, 7836 North Point Blvd., W-S, NC 27106
  • District Two Office, 1539 Waughtown St., W-S, NC 27107
  • District Three Office, 2393 Winterhaven Ln., W-S, NC 27103

We will NOT accept liquids, jells, creams, aerosols, household hazardous waste, syringes, or other biohazard material.

Please direct questions regarding this program to Sgt. Stan A. Karboski at
