2018 marks the 32nd anniversary of the Bethabara Concert band, whose first public performance took place at Historic Bethabara Park on September 4, 1986.The Bethabara Concert Band participates in many of the special events held at the park and performs monthly at outdoor evening concerts in the Park Pavilion from June to October. The band is a member of The Association of Concert Bands.
History of the Band
Moravians have a long history of celebrating the events of their life with music and it was certainly true at Bethabara, the birthplace of Winston-Salem. John Morris Cline, the founder of the Bethabara Concert Band, felt that the establishment of a band here would honor the founding of this town and the lives of the settlers who carved out a life in the wilderness.
In the early 1980s, John and Mildred Cline made a series of calls and sent letters to gather potential band members. The Band was formally established in April 1986 and gave their first performance inside the Palisade Fort at Historic Bethabara Park in September 1986.
