Special Olympics Forsyth County is calling all chili buffs -- cooks and eaters alike -- to participate in its first-ever chili cook-off on Friday, Jan. 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Miller Park Recreation Center, 400 Leisure Lane, Winston-Salem. In addition to chili, there will be free games and music.

The entry fee for chili contestants is $25. Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place. To register contact Leanne Pressley at 336-727-2423 or send an email to leannep@cityofws.org. The entry deadline is 5 p.m. Jan. 17. 

Chilies entered into the cook-off will be available for tasting by the public. The first 50 attendees will receive a free souvenir towel. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 10 and under, and $7 for Special Olympics athletes. Admission comes with five sample tasting tickets, plus salad, corn bread, a drink and dessert. Additional sample tasting tickets will be available for $2 each. Tickets will be available at the door or can be purchased in advance during business hours at the Black-Phillips- Smith Government Center, 2301 N. Patterson Ave, Winston-Salem.
