75th Bee City USA

Winston-Salem is honored to be an affiliate of Bee City USA

Bee City, USA fosters ongoing dialogue in urban areas to raise awareness of the role pollinators play in our communities and what each of us can do to provide them with healthy habitat.

Bee City USA signs are located at Quarry Park, Washington Park (Gateway Nature Preserve), and Historic Bethabara Park.

The Operations Department created an ArcGIS Story Map that focuses on projects occurring at the parks mentioned above as well as the Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful Flower Bed Program and city-maintained flower beds.

SWARMING BEES
Honey bee swarms cling together and often form a mass on a limb or other stationary object, and usually stay for no longer than a day or two while they are looking for a permanent home. Bad weather or other circumstances may keep a swarm in place longer, and they may construct small amounts of comb.

Swarming bees can be scary for some, but our friends with the Forsyth Co. Beekeepers Association can help.
