Kumasi, Ghana

In October of 2003, Maurice Horsey, Chairman of the
Winston-Salem Sister Cities Board traveled to Kumasi,
Ghana.  Wake Forest U.M.C. has been interested in
establishing a relationship with Ghana that might lead
to an exchange of medical pro- fessionals. Maurice was
able to present to the Kumasi Assembly a gift of three
new computers. Shown in the photos are Maurice at
the presentation of the computers  to Mayor Maxwell
Jumah and his staff.

Maurice was accompanied by Dr. Richard Allen, Wake Forest University Medical Center, Cynthia Jefferies of the Winston Lake YMCA, and her husband, Marshall Jeffries, shown here taking in some of the local sights.

Maurice captured this photo of a Kumasi woman engaged n a recycling project. The project is an innovation begun by Mayor Jumah that recycles used plastics into beads for use in making crafts. All proceeds from the sale of the beads kept by the local craftsmen.
