Minority and Women
Business Enterprise Program

This program is designed to assist minority and women owned business enterprises in providing goods and services to the city. In addition, the program provides workshops and seminars for minority and women owned businesses, and assistance with the resolution of problems and complaints relating to the M/WBE program.

The City of Winston-Salem is no longer certifying businesses as minority or woman owned and no longer maintains a certified directory.  The State of North Carolina, through its HUB Department, is now the certifying agency in the State. If you are checking to see if a business is certified as minority or woman owned please follow the link below to the Statewide Uniform Certification program, through the HUB Office.

The State of North Carolina has implemented a Statewide Uniform Certification program.  If your firm is currently certified with the HUB Office, your certification will automatically be transferred into the SWUC Program on July 1, 2009. When your current certification expires, you must request a new certification under the SWUC Program.

If your firm was not certified with the HUB Office, but has been certified with a local M/WBE office, the HUB Office will help to facilitate transfer of your certification into the SWUC Program. For your local certification to be transferred, you must register your firm in the Vendor Link NC database and request HUB Certification. The HUB Office will then request your documentation from the local M/WBE Office you have indicated during registration. Upon receipt of your documentation, your firm’s certification will be transferred into SWUC. When your current certification expires, you'll have to request new certification under the SWUC Program.

MWBE Citizen Advisory Committee: Meets the second to last Tuesday of every month as needed, to review participation goals and projects.  If interested in volunteering please contact the Mayor's Office.

M/WBE - Section 3 Application

The City of Winston-Salem is no longer certifing businesses as minority or woman owned however, we will continue to certify businesses as Section 3 eligible.  Businesses interested in certifying as MWBE/HUB businesses are directed to the State's HUB Office.  The City of Winston-Salem will accept the HUB certification as qualification for participation on City construction projects that require MWBE participation.
