The Winston-Salem Fire Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Firefighter. Applications can be submitted electronically by accessing the City of Winston-Salem Human Resources job listing at http://www.cityofws.org/oea/ . In the event that you wish to submit your application in person, you may download the application form from this site and bring the completed version to their office in the Bryce A. Stewart Municipal Building, located at 100 E. First Street, Suite 131. Information regarding the agility test requirement is listed below!

Job Requirements |
- 20 years of age or older
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of physical agility test
- Successfully pass drug test
- Acceptable background check
- Upon hiring, successful completion of recruit school
- Ability to obtain valid N.C. Class B Driver's License after completion of recruit school

The successful candidate will attend the WSFD Recruit School. Completion of the school will result in certification as a North Carolina Level II Firefighter, North Carolina Level I Hazardous Materials Responder, North Carolina Rescue Technician and a North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician.
Agility tests are periodically scheduled at Deaton Thompson Stadium to evaluate the physical qualifications of firefighter candidates who have submitted completed applications. Candidates MUST have submitted completed applications in order to be invited to participate in the agility test. Deaton Thompson Stadium is located next to the Georgia E. Taylor Recreation Center which can be found at 1471 W. Clemmonsville Road, behind the Griffith High School/Middle School Academy.

 | Candidates will be required to complete the following items during the agility test:
The following items will be completed by the candidate while wearing FF turnout coat an airpack on his/her back (minus the face mask):
- Walk up the stadium stairs to the top while carrying a hose pack.
- At the top of the stairs, hoist a 50' section of 4" large diameter hose by rope to the top of the stadium, 35'.
- Walk down the stadium stairs carrying a hose pack.
- Walk through a serpentine course set up with pylons.
- Walk to the chopping simulator and complete a minimum of 30 strikes in under 55 seconds.
- Drag a hose attached to a weighted tire 100 feet.
- Drag a 165 lb. dummy 75 feet.
- Complete a climb up an aerial ladder to a pre-determined height.
