Fire Department Command Staff

Chief Farmer joined the Winston-Salem Fire Department as a firefighter in 1983. He has progressed through the ranks of the department over the years and was appointed as the Fire Chief on December 1, 2008. He is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University with a Bachelor's degree and Appalachian University with a master's degree in Business Administration. He is a graduate of the North Carolina Institute of Government.
Chief Farmer is an advocate for employee wellness and safety, increased staffing, improved equipment, and the incorporation of the latest technology into fire service delivery. His administration is based on the core concept of quality customer service.

Chief Broome oversees the operations of the suppression division for the department. Chief Broome holds an Associates degree in Fire Protection Technology from Forsyth Technical Community College and a Bachelor's degree in Fire Safety Engineering Technology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
