Maintenance Worker, Streets Division

 

Description of movie:

Men working heavy equipment and smoothing the roadway, plowing snow, and putting down asphalt.

The Streets Division has about 90 employees and is responsible for maintaining almost 1,000 miles of city streets. The division repairs curbs and gutters, cleans the streets, maintains and builds sidewalks, and repairs street cuts made to access underground water, sewer, power and telephone lines. During winter storms, the division is responsible for the clearing city streets.

A maintenance worker for the Streets Division performs such duties as shoveling, sweeping, mixing concrete and flagging traffic at job sites throughout the city. The job requires manual labor and requires mainly outside work, which may be conducted in all weather conditions. Occasionally the job requires working overtime to respond to unexpected late-night and early-morning calls. To get this job you must have a North Carolina driver’s license. This job is eligible for overtime pay. The city of Winston-Salem is an equal opportunity employer.
