Vegetation Management Vehicle Operator

Workers driving large trucks, edgers, mowers, chain saw, and carrying cut tree trunks.

The Vegetation Management Division is part of the Recreation and Parks Department. Its 67 full-time employees provide a safe and beautiful environment for city residents and visitors by maintaining all landscaping, planting beds, turf, shrubs, and trees along roads and in parks and other public land.

A vegetation maintenance vehicle operator performs routine semi-skilled grounds and tree maintenance; operates a city vehicle to carry crew to the work site, operates push and riding mowers, string trimmers, edgers, blowers, and other equipment for landscape and turf maintenance. The job requires manual labor and occasionally requires working in poor weather. You must be able to lift 50 pounds. To get this job you must have a North Carolina driver’s license and have experience in buildings and grounds maintenance work. This job provides seasonal employment six to 10 months a year and does not include benefits. It is eligible for overtime pay. The City of Winston-Salem is an equal opportunity employer.
