Programs

Adopt-A-Flower Bed
A program coordinated with the Vegetation Management Division, in which groups are asked to “adopt” city right of way beds and maintain them by weeding, planting, collecting litter, etc. All supplies will be provided and signs erected with the group’s name.

Adopt-A-Stream
A program jointly coordinated with the Stormwater Division of the city.  Groups are asked to “adopt” sections of local waterways and clean them twice a year. Supplies will be  provided and signs erected with the group’s name.

Adopt-A-Street
Groups “adopt” a stretch of a city street by cleaning it up every 2 months. KWSB provides supplies, trash pickup, and an “Adopt-A-Street” sign with the group’s or individual's name. Currently there are over 60 groups with adopted streets.

Clean & Green
Conducted each year during Earth week in April. Representatives from KWSB and the Garden Club Council judge public schools on beautification and environmental education programs. Flags, certificates, plaques, and trees are awarded.  Winners for this year will be announced at the June school board meeting.

Flower Bed Program
Every spring KWSB partners with the Garden Club Council of Winston-Salem and the Vegetation Management Division of the city to provide free annual plants to neighborhood associations and other groups to plant in right of way beds usually at entrances to their neighborhoods. KWSB, the city, and the Garden Club Council judge these beds during the summer and provide awards.

Presentations
KWSB conducts presentations on litter prevention, recycling and other environmental issues throughout the year in the schools and for other organizations as requested.
