Markers for Slain Forsyth County Soldiers to Be Unveiled During Memorial Day Ceremony
LJVM Coliseum May 24, 2006
Markers for two Forsyth County soldiers killed during the past year will be unveiled during a Memorial Day ceremony at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The new markers will honor Sgt. Monta S. Ruth and Spc. David H. Timmons Jr.
Ruth was killed Aug. 31, 2005, by a roadside bomb that exploded next to his patrol vehicle. Timmons was killed May 5, 2006, while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. Their markers will join those for 496 other Forsyth County natives who died while at war for their country.
This year’s Memorial Day observance will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, May 29, in the atrium of Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The ceremony is sponsored by the Triad Vietnam Veterans Association in partnership with the city of Winston-Salem.
Fifth District Rep. Virginia Foxx will be the guest speaker. A roll of the names of all the Forsyth County servicemen killed in action will be read following her remarks.
For more information call Walt Emery of the Triad Vietnam Veterans Association at 766-8087 or Chuck Webster of the coliseum at 725-5635 x 455.
