Public Safety Procession and Ceremony to Mark Fifth Anniversary of Sept. 11 Attacks

City officials and local fire and law enforcement agencies will hold a public safety procession and ceremony in downtown Winston-Salem to mark the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

The procession will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at Fourth and Spring streets, proceed east on Fourth Street and turn south on Liberty Street. It will end at Corpening Plaza, where a ceremony will be held at 10 a.m.

Participants include Mayor Allen Joines, City Council Member and Mayor Pro Tempore Vivian H. Burke, Police Chief Pat Norris, Fire Chief John Gist, the Winston-Salem Fire Department, the Winston-Salem Police Department, the Kernersville, Lewisville and Forsyth County fire departments, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department, the Forsyth County Emergency Medical Service, the N.C. Highway Patrol and the American Red Cross.
