Mayor Joines Makes Friendly Wager on Orange Bowl

Office of the Mayor - Dec. 26, 2006
Contact: Linda Jackson-Barnes, 727-2058

Mayor Allen Joines and Mayor Jerry E. Abramson of Louisville and Jefferson County, Ky., are making a friendly wager on the results when Wake Forest University plays the University of Louisville in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 2.

Joines pledged to send Abramson some sugar cake and cookies from Old Salem, a bottle of Texas Pete Hot Sauce, a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts and Champion athletic gear, β€œin the unlikely event that Wake Forest loses to the fine Louisville team.”

Abramson normally wagers a genuine Louisville slugger bat, Joines said. β€œI told Mayor Abramson that, because a Wake Forest victory is inevitable and that since he has previously given me a bat I have no need for two of them.” Instead, Abramson has pledged to deliver two bottles of aged Kentucky bourbon.
