Big Sweep Volunteers to Clean Local Waterways Oct. 6

More than 3,000 volunteers have signed up to help clean local lakes and streams during the annual Big Sweep Waterway Cleanup in Forsyth County, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A record number of volunteers have signed up.

Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful will have Big Sweep crews at more than 40 sites, including Peters Creek, Silas Creek, Salem Creek, Monarcas Creek, Mill Creek, Tanner’s Run, Salem Lake and the Yadkin River.

Media representatives interested in covering Big Sweep may contact George Stilphen, the executive director of Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful, for assistance in getting to a Big Sweep clean-up site. During the event, you may reach him by cell phone at 403-7824. Also during the event, Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful volunteers will be at Building 25 in the City Yard off Salem Avenue to direct media to clean-up sites.

This year’s Big Sweep in Forsyth County is being sponsored by First Citizens Bank, Pepsi Bottling Ventures, Whole Foods Market, ReynoldsAmerican, Waste Management, Krispy Kreme, Winston-Salem Stormwater Management, Liberty Lincoln Mercury, Prudential Carolinas Realty, and McLain, Steedle, Chermak & Hanson Orthodontics.
