The Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum has been named a Facilities magazine Prime Site Award winner for 2006. This marks the tenth year the facility has received the award. The coliseum received a Prime Site award for eight consecutive years from 1994-2001, and again in 2003 and 2006
Each year, the magazine chooses approximately 40-50 winners throughout the United States. The coliseum is one of the few entertainment facilities in the nation that has won this distinction 10 years.
The Prime Site Awards are based on the opinions of those in the industry directly involved with site selection for events – promoters, booking agents and event planners. Voting is based upon convenience of location, attractiveness of the facility, quality of staff, maintenance, food and beverage functions, technological capabilities, and ease of setup and breakdown.
Bucky Dame, the coliseum complex director, said, “Our staff works very hard to make this facility one of the best in the country. Consistency of service to those who use our facilities is always one of the hardest elements to achieve. Obviously, we have been able to deliver. This award is for our great staff and is a testament to their dedication and hard work for the citizens of Winston-Salem.”
Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum is the anchor of the Winston-Salem Entertainment Sports Complex. In addition to the coliseum, the complex consists of the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds, Joel Coliseum Annex, Bowman Gray Stadium, Joel Coliseum Theatre and Ernie Shore Field.
