Anthony R. Farmer
Antony Farmer is a 25-year veteran of the Winston-Salem Fire Department. He joined the fire department in 1983 as a firefighter and was subsequently promoted to fire engineer (1986) fire captain (1988), battalion chief (1991) and district fire chief (1997).
Farmer was born Feb. 4, 1957, in Elm City, (Wilson County) North Carolina, to Alfred and Vera Farmer. He graduated from Elm City High School in 1975 and attended Winston-Salem State University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in music education. Prior to joining the Fire Department he was employed by the N.C. Department of Transportation and the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. In 1996 he received a master’s in business administration from Appalachian State University. Farmer also received a certificate in municipal administration from the Institute of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Farmer is married to the former Gail Wilson. They have three grown children: Tim, Sherrie’, and Antonette. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity and First Waughtown Baptist Church, where he is a trustee, minister of music, and an associate minister.
