Big Sweep Volunteers Needed to Clean Local Waterways Oct. 4

Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful - Aug. 27, 2008
Contact: George Stilphen, 727-8013

Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful is looking for volunteers to clean local waterways during this year’s annual Big Sweep, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Last year nearly 4,000 volunteers signed up to help clean local lakes and streams during Big Sweep, earning Forsyth County an award for the largest volunteer turnout of any county in the state.

Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful plans to target more than 30 sites this year, including Peters Creek, Silas Creek, Salem Creek, Monarcas Creek, Mill Creek, Tanner’s Run, Salem Lake and the Yadkin River.

This year’s Big Sweep in Forsyth County is being sponsored by First Citizens Bank, Pepsi Bottling Ventures, Reynolds American, Waste Management, Krispy Kreme, Winston-Salem Stormwater Management, Liberty Lincoln Mercury, and McLain, Steedle, Chermak & Hanson Orthodontics.

For more information or to volunteer, call Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful at 727-8013 or e-mail georges@cityofws.org. All supplies and lunch are provided.
