Dixie Classic Fair announces attendance and exhibit figures for 2008

The Dixie Classic Fair celebrated its 126th anniversary with a record number of exhibit entries. Overall attendance was 310,160. The record attendance, set in 2007, was 371,219.

David Sparks, the fair director, said, "The community support for the fair was evident as more people than ever before entered exhibits. The 2008 fair received 25,921 entries, which far exceeds last year’s total of 20,722.

The support and participation by thousands of people from throughout the Piedmont Triad and Northwest North Carolina helped make this a fair to remember. Fair staff and volunteers worked hard to display and showcase all the entries received this year.

"The disappointing economy and two days of threatening weather put a damper on attendance, but all of us look forward to next year’s fair, when hopefully the economy will be making a rebound."

The Dixie Classic Fair is the second largest fair in North Carolina, and in the top 50 largest attended fairs in the nation.
