First Street Sinkhole Update

City officials estimate that the center and right lanes of First Street next to Corpening Plaza, between Liberty and Cherry streets, will be closed for two weeks to repair damage under the street that caused a sinkhole to open Wednesday evening. The left lane remains open.

Approximately 170 feet of 24- and 30-inch drain pipe under the street will be replaced. Additional evaluation of the surrounding drainage system could result in an expansion of the project. For more information, call City Link at 727-8000.
