Sink Hole Closes Lanes on First Street Downtown

The center and right lanes of First Street have been closed next to Corpening Plaza, between Liberty and Cherry streets, because of a large sink hole that has undermined the roadbed. The left lane of travel is open. The lanes will be closed at least through the Memorial Day weekend.

The repair will be complicated by the multiple utility lines that are located underground in downtown, including water and sewer lines, power lines, gas lines, telephone lines, cable television lines, and fiber-optic data lines downtown.
