Legacy Development Guide

The current comprehensive plan, the Legacy Development Guide, was adopted by Forsyth County and all eight of its municipalities in 2001. Legacy is a general, long-range policy guide for decisions concerning the overall growth and development of Forsyth County and its eight municipalities.  Click Legacy Development Guide to view Legacy, annual updates, and other related materials.

Citizen’s Committee Files Its Annual Report on Legacy

The Legacy Oversight Committee is a group of citizens established to monitor progress in implementing the Legacy Development Guide, the community’s comprehensive plan. The Committee has completed its 2007 annual report to the community.

The Committee reported that 2007 was a year of Awards, Achievements and Celebration of planning in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County!
 

  
The North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association awarded the Mayor of Winston-Salem the Distinguished Leadership Award for Elected Officials for his contribution to planning activities in the community.

The City of Winston-Salem received the 2007 Marvin Collins Planning Award for the Revitalizing Urban Commercial Areas (RUCA) project. This award recognizes communities and programs that exemplify outstanding planning and achievement in serving low-income neighborhoods and/or disadvantaged minority communities through the use of community plans or projects.

The City-County Planning Board celebrated its 60-year anniversary and 5 years of implementing Legacy.
