Kernersville Rd Interchange photoKernersville Road/Future Northern Beltway Interchange Land Use Study Underway

By Steve Smotherman  (posted 8/5/2008)

The Study examines future land use and traffic issues surrounding this interchange in eastern Forsyth County scheduled to begin construction in 2015. Two eventful meetings were held on November 6th and November 13th, 2007 with approximately fifty (50) residents living near the interchange.

There have been some unforeseen delays in formulating sound traffic circulation and vehicular access proposals for the 115-degree angle of the Sedge Garden Road/Kernersville Road intersection, particularly to accommodate anticipated new development in the southwest quadrant of the interchange. We believe that the future traffic issues have now been suitably addressed with a couple of development options.

Two land use and traffic scenarios have been prepared for review at a presentation scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2008, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the ballroom at Sedge Garden Recreation Center located at 401 Robbins Road, Winston-Salem, NC, 27107.

Proposed Tree Ordinance

By Kirk Ericson    (rev. 11/10/2008)

Planning staff, in conjunction with other city departments, has developed a draft tree ordinance which incorporates the recommendations of the Tree Committee report. The proposed ordinance expands upon the existing landscaping requirements of the Unified Development Ordinances (UDO) and includes requirements for minimum tree save areas for residential and nonresidential development as well as planting and maintenance standards. A Planning Board Public Hearing was held on the proposed Tree Ordinance on October 9, 2008. A summary sheet [24kb/pdf/2p] on the ordinance as presented on October 9 and the ordinance language [106b/pdf/20p] are available here.

The Board discussed modifications to the proposed ordinance draft at their October 23 work session, and will be discussing an alternative version of the ordinance at their November 13 work session. A summary sheet [18kb/pdf/2p] on the proposed ordinances changes and the alternative ordinance language [199kb/pdf/23p] are available here. For more information contact Kirk Ericson (747-7045) or Glenn Simmons (747-7065).
