Proposed Tree Ordinance

By Kirk Ericson

Planning staff, in conjunction with other city departments, has developed a draft tree ordinance which incorporates the recommendations of the Tree Committee report. The proposed ordinance expands upon the existing landscaping requirements of the Unified Development Ordinances (UDO) and includes requirements for minimum tree save areas for residential and nonresidential development as well as planting and maintenance standards. Public information meetings on the proposed tree ordinance will be held on May 28 at 3:30 p.m. and June 3 at 6:00 p.m. in the fifth floor meeting room of the Bryce A. Stuart Municipal Building. A summary sheet [pdf/35kb] and PowerPoint presentation [ppt/43mb] are available, as well as the proposed tree ordinance [pdf/735kb]. For more information contact Kirk Ericson (747-7045) or Glenn Simmons (747-7065).

Kernersville Rd Interchange photoKernersville Road/Future Northern Beltway Interchange Land Use Study Underway

By Steve Smotherman  11/25/2007

Two eventful meetings were held on November 6 and November 13, 2007, with approximately fifty (50) residents living near the future interchange of Kernersville Road and the Northern Beltway in eastern Forsyth County. At the first meeting, NCDOT staff engineer Claude Williamson gave updated information about the present status of this section of the Northern Beltway; at the second meeting residents were given an opportunity to consider proposed land uses surrounding the interchange.  Initial land use ideas ranged from mixed-use residential and commercial shopping to town-home development.

Planning staff will take the array of land use ideas and formulate two or three land use/traffic management options (along with accompanying illustrations) that will be presented in a brief study report for review and input in late January 2008.
