SUMMARY:
Mr. Childress was the sole proprietor of the D & S Flea / Consignment Shop located in southern Winston-Salem near the North Carolina School of the Arts. His shop was a flea market-type business where he sold used items. Mr. Childress was found by a customer who entered the store and found him bleeding and barely conscious. Within a short time, the crime scene revealed that a robbery occurred and money was stolen. Mr. Childress was transported to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem and despite all efforts, on September 13, 2000, he expired as a result of his injuries. A crime scene investigation was conducted and left few investigative leads.
This case has aired on Crimestoppers and some evidence had been sent to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation during the initial stages of this investigation.
Crimestoppers has offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this homicide.
