K-9 Training

All K-9's on staff, with the exception of one, is fully certified through the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) in explosives detection, tracking, obedience, evidence searches, and criminal apprehensions.  K-9 Atos is certified through Eastern States Working Dog Association (ESWDA).  He is certified to detect the odor of five controlled substances: marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine (crack & powder), heroine and methamphetamine.  In addition to USPCA or ESWDA certifications, each K-9 is certified with the Winston-Salem Police Department after completing a 400-hour WSPD training course with their handler.

K-9 K'os, coached by his handler Officer Matthew Hatch, shows his agility skills in the 2008 USPCA National Training Seminar.
