First Captain of Police (1920)

In October, 1920, the first use of the rank of Captain was given to Jesse James Cofer.  Cofer was in charge of all police in uniform.  His salary was $150 per month.

On Thursday, September 17, 1931, the newspaper Twin City Gold Leaf wrote an article naming Cofer as one of Winston-Salem's Popular Policemen.  Newspaper article [pdf/]
