Assistant Chief Barry D. Rountree

Assistant Chief Barry D. Rountree

Assistant Chief Barry D. Rountree started his career with the Winston-Salem Police Department as a Police Officer in 1988. He was promoted to Senior Police Officer in 1992, Sergeant in 1996, Lieutenant in 2000, and Captain in 2004. Asst. Chief Barry D. Rountree has served in the Field Services Bureau, Investigative Services Bureau and the Professional Standards Division.

Assistant Chief Rountree has served in numerous assignments within the Winston-Salem police department. He served as a patrol officer, Senior police officer, foot patrol officer, Field training officer, Sergeant, and Field Commander in Patrol Division. In the Investigative Service Bureau, he served as a detective and Lieutenant in the Special Investigations Division. During his career he served in the Office of the Chief of Police in the department’s Professional Standards Division/ Internal Affairs section as a Sergeant. Asst. Chief Rountree also served as the Commander of the Professional Standards Division, overseeing the Internal Affairs Section, Recruiting Unit, Evidence Management, and Personnel Management.

Assistant Chief Barry D. Rountree was awarded the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate in August of 1994 by the Criminal Justice Education and Standards Training Commission. He is a State-certified Basic Law Enforcement General Instructor, and a graduate of the 31st session of the Administrative Officers Management Program at North Carolina State University. Asst. Chief Rountree also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Winston-Salem State University and a Master's of Public Affairs Degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Assistant Chief Rountree serves as a board member for the Advocacy for the poor, and he is a corporate volunteer and serves as a tutor at Kimberley Park elementary school. He was honored as officer of the month in 1995.

Assistant Chief Barry D. Rountree is married to Sylvia Rountree and they have one son, Barry Jr. They are members of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church.
