Historic Area of Bethabara Park
Restorations include:
- The 1788 Gemeinhaus (church), uniquely the last remaining eighteenth-century German church with attached living quarters remaining in the United States, furnished with period furniture, some original to the building.
- The 1782 "Potters House", the oldest brick building in Forsyth Country, NC with pottery and dying exhibits.
- The 1803 Buttner House, the earliest known distiller's house in the United States.
- The "log house", shown from entries in the Moravian records, may have been constructed in 1816 by Joseph Krause for his new bride.
- The 1759 God's Acre (graveyard) for strangers and the 1769 Dobbs Parish Graveyard, the first being the second oldest graveyard in the county.
- Over forty stabilized archaeological ruins, both in the main historic area and in the Bethabara mill and fort site area, from excavations done in the 1960's, which are the basis of the protocols for the study of American historic archaeology.
Reconstructions include:
- The 1759 Community Garden, the only known, well-documented colonial community garden in the United States.
- The 1761 Medical Garden, the earliest known, well-documented colonial medical garden in the United States.
- The 1756 Palisade Fort, the only French and Indian War fort erected on its original site, based upon archaeology and historic maps.
- The 1752 Wagner cabin, based upon historic map, drawings and archaeology.
- The 1754 first settlement village, including four buildings, an oven and fencing, based upon historic maps, drawing and archaeology.
- The 1765 Calf Barn, with original 18th Century timber-frame and implement exhibits.
- The 1754 Single Brothers House, which was soon used as a horse stable.
- 1758 Grape Arbor, which is earliest known in the Carolina Peidmont Backcountry.
Archaeological sites:
- The foundations of the original 1757 community farmhouse additions.
- The foundations of the 1759 Dr. Kalberlahn laboratory.
- The foundations of the 1763 Apothecary Shop.
Educational programs:
- Special events, including four major festivals to mark the four seasons.
- Community Gardener Program in the 1759 Community Garden.
- Special Garden Club meetings and garden tours.
- Eagle Scout projects.
- School tours for upper and lower elementary.
- Summer children's programs.
- Park Partnerships with a colonial dance group, colonial re-enactors, the Bethabara Park Concert Band and the Sons of the American Revolution.
