Special Olympics

Special Olympics Forsyth County (SOFC) provides athletic competition and training for more than 1,400 youth and adults with intellectual disabilities. Eligible athletes must be at least 8 years old and must have an Athlete Participation Form and Parent Release form on file with SOFC. Our goal is to increase and maintain their physical fitness, and social involvement.

Athletes can compete in a variety of sports including alpine skiing, aquatics, athletics, basketball, bocce, bowling, equestrian, floor hockey, golf, rollerskating, soccer, softball, and volleyball. Special Olympics Forsyth County is a subprogram of Special Olympics North Carolina and is authorized and accredited by Special Olympics North Carolina, Inc.

Spring Games are held each year, in April, at Wake Forest University, with invitational tournaments in the other sports held throughout the year. Eligible athletes go on to compete at the state level in many sports. The largest event is the Special Olympics North Carolina Fall Games. It takes nearly 1,000 volunteers to make the games run smoothly.
