It’s not too late to get curbside service
The Sanitation Division is still accepting applications for participating in the city's voluntary curbside garbage collection program. Participating households (served by the City of Winston-Salem) receive free use of a 96-gallon roll-out cart for wheeling their garbage to the curb. The carts hold as much as three standard 32-gallon trash cans. NO EXCESS TRASH IS TO BE PLACED AT THE CURBSIDE. NO YARD WASTE (GRASS, STICKS, LEAVES) ALLOWED IN ROLL-OUT CART.
Only city-issued roll-out carts may be used for the program. Participating households must agree to retrieve their cart from the curb within 24 hours of collection.
Trash carts can be picked up at the Sanitation location at 650 Stadium Drive between 8:00-4:00 or can be delivered by a city crew. The first cart is free; a second one is $25.00 per year, billed to the service address.
For more information about the program or to sign up, call the Sanitation Division at 727-2638 or use the online request form:

Curbside Pickup guidelines [video/2:30min]
(City Ordinance 26-6; sec. k-2) Since these containers are designed to be emptied by a specially designed automated collection truck, residents who choose to participate may not place excess household trash by the curb, as allowed in subsection (b) above. Voluntary residents who accumulate excess household trash may request a second specifically designated roll-out container which shall also be collected on the resident's normal collection day. The cost of providing and collecting this second roll-out container shall be $25.00 per year, or any part thereof.
