One Homeowner's Solution to a Problem
Virginia Holbrook bought her new house three years ago and along with her lovely home off of Country Club Road, she also got a bit of an eyesore in her back yard. Her yard was the critical meeting place for runoff from the subdivision behind her, from Country Club Road, and also from her own street, Club Pointe Drive. But with help from her friend, Ken Pittman, and landscape architect, she was able to turn an eroding drainage ditch, which often flooded her neighbor’s yard, into a lovely natural area that can handle the runoff.

Drainage outlet from Country Club Road. Some erosion is still visible. |
Drainage flows through foliage to reduce speed, then falls into a step pool. |

Additional foliage helps to diffuse the flow of water. |
All water eventually flows to this low point that contains tick seed sunflowers, 2 river birches and a "volunteer" willow - all plants that enjoy lots of water. |
