Downtown Streets Closed due to Construction/Maintenance

First Street Closing For Traffic Island Installation

First Street, between Spruce Street and Shady Boulevard, will be closed nightly the week of August 20th to install a permanent traffic island in place of the temporary island that has been in place since 2002.

The street will be closed to all traffic each night from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Monday evening, August 20th, through Saturday morning, August 25.  A detour will be set up when the street is closed.  During the day, one lane will be open to traffic.  For more information, call 727-2789.

Downtown Streets Closing for Traffic Bollard Installation

The city will be closing streets in the downtown Arts District at various times next week to install traffic bollards (removable posts) in the streets:

  • Trade Street, between Sixth and Seventh streets, will be closed to all traffic from 6 p.m. Monday, August 20, until 6 a.m. Tuesday, and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.
  • Sixth Street, between Cherry and Trade streets, will be closed to all traffic from 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, until 6 a.m. Wednesday, and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
  • Sixth Street between Trade and Liberty streets, will be closed to all traffic from 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, until 6 a.m. Thursday, and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
  • Liberty Street will be closed to through traffic at Sixth Street from 6 p.m. Thursday, August 23,  until 6 a.m. Friday, and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
