Surface Transportation Program/Direct Attributable (STP-DA) Project Management

There are four primary categories of federal funds which are usually provided for street and highway purposes in the Winston-Salem Urban Area. The categories include: Surface Transportation Program/Direct Attributable (STP/STP-DA), National Highway System (NHS), Interstate Maintenance (IM), and Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ).

The Winston-Salem Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has the authority to program STP-DA funds for transportation planning, bicycle, greenway, sidewalk, and street and highway projects in the urban area.

For this year, additional STP-DA funds are available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, also known as "Stimulus" funds.
