U.S. 52 Operational Improvements
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is proposing to reduce the number of crashes and improve mobility along the section of US 52 from the I-40 to NC 65. The combinations of the following proposed improvements are under consideration:
- Using the current shoulders as travel lanes from I-40 Business/US 421 to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (one additional lane in each direction),
- Closing Ramps along US 52 at Stadium Drive, Third Street and Fifth Street,
- Additions to the existing Intelligent Transportation System (traffic cameras, traffic signals, signage, and more).
NCDOT held a Pre-Hearing Open House on March 10, 2008 in the Auditorium of the Kennedy Learning Center in Winston-Salem.
