Cost Recovery

For many years, the City of Winston-Salem's Sewer Use Resolution has allowed the City to recover expenses incurred for violations of the pretreatment standard or requirements. Violators are cited and assessed the city's costs which may include the following:

• Investigative cost
• Enforcement cost
• Fines and expenses associated with violations of City NPDES permits (including fish kills and other environmental impacts)
• Terminating or revoking a permit
• Severance of the sewer connections.
• Cost to rectify the damage and the cost of the work required to clear and/or repair any part of the system affected by the violation
