How Appointments Are Made

The Utilities Commission is made up of ten (10) members and a chairperson. Five (5) members are appointed by the City Council and five (5) by the Board of Aldermen of Forsyth County. The chairperson is appointed jointly by the Mayor and Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners for a term of two (2) years, and may be appointed to not more than five (5) terms. All other members serve for a term of five (5) years. No member can be appointed to more than two (2) terms of five years each. No member of the Board of Aldermen or the City Council may serve as the chairperson or a member of the Utility Commission while actively serving as an elected official.
