The authority for establishing the Forsyth County Historic Resources Commission is the N.C.G.S. 160A-400.1 through 400.14. Section 86-1 of the City Code was adopted by the City Council on April 15, 2002. |
| Purpose/Function |
The Commission is designated as the historic preservation advisory and quasi-judicial body for Forsyth County. Its purpose is to safeguard the heritage of Forsyth County by preserving those areas and individual properties which reflect elements of its cultural, social, economic, political or architectural history. |
| Method of Appointment |
Five members are appointed by the City Council upon the recommendation of the Mayor, with two at-large members and one from the following categories: architectural historian or historic preservationist; Historic (H) District property owner; and Historic Overlay (HO) District property owner. Five members are appointed by the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners, with two at-large members and one from the following categories: N.C. licensed architect; archaeologist, landscape architect/designer, planner surveyor, or arborist; and local Historic Landmark (LHL) property owner. One member is appointed by the Kernersville Board of Aldermen and one member is appointed by the Clemmons Village Council. All members must reside in Forsyth County. |
