Transportation Department - May 21, 2019
The annual "Walk & Roll Winston-Salem" bicycle and pedestrian celebration returns to Bailey Park on Memorial Day, May 27, with activities, organized bike rides, exhibits and "tactical urbanism" demonstrations, along with the excitement of the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic.
Patterson Avenue will be closed between Third and Fifth streets for the festival, and stations set up along the street for a bike rodeo, helmet fittings and bike-share demonstrations. Demonstrations of tactical urbanism -- defined as low-cost, temporary changes in urban environments intended to improve neighborhoods and gathering places -- will be held in the block of Patterson between Third and Fourth streets. Games will be set up in the Bailey Park lawn and vendors will have booths on the park's upper level. Organized bike rides along Long Branch Trail will begin at 2 and 3 p.m.
Parking will be available in the parking deck at Church and Fourth Streets.
Walk & Roll Winston-Salem is being held in conjunction with the final day of the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic. The women's road race will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the men’s road race will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. The race course passed next to Bailey Park on Fifth Street, next to the Walk & Roll activities.
Walk & Roll Winston-Salem is sponsored by the city of Winston-Salem, Wake Forest Innovation Quarter, the Forsyth County Public Health Department, the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic, the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation and Safe Kids Northwest Piedmont.
