Rec Centers to Host Kite-Decorating Sessions
City recreation centers will be hosting kite-decorating workshops the week of June 3 to help residents build kites that they can fly during the upcoming Flight Festival on June 15 in Wake Forest Innovation Quarter. WePLAY Movies in the Park Series Returns June 15
City residents can again enjoy free family-friendly movies this summer at local parks, starting with a free showing of Spider-Man in the Spider-Verse on Saturday, June 15, at Ray Agnew Field on Waterworks Road, next to the Winston Waterworks aquatic park. A food truck will be on site and pre-movie activities will begin at 7:30 p.m. The movie will begin at dusk. Residents should bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit on. Also showing this summer as part of the WePLAY Movies in the Park series are "The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part," July 20 at Oak Summit Park; and "Ralph Breaks the Internet," Aug. 17 at Parkland Park.
Now's the Time to Prepare for Hurricanes
Hurricane season is here and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Emergency Management is encouraging residents to prepare by updating their emergency plans and supply kits. Hurricane season officially runs from June 1 through November.
Forsyth County residents should not assume they are not at risk from hurricanes and tropical storms, says August Vernon, the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County emergency management director. Plans should include where to go and what to do if a hurricane strikes, and making provisions for those under your care who are unable to help themselves. Residents should also review and update their homeowners' or renters' insurance policies to ensure they include coverage for damage, natural disasters and flood insurance. READ MORE
