Enjoy a wide variety of biking activities for all ages and abilities during National Bike Month in Winston-Salem.
This calendar shows events scheduled throughout the month. You’ll find more detailed information in the table below the calendar. All posted events are open to the public.
Calendar of Events
At each event, we will provide each participant with a raffle ticket. At the end of the month we'll hold a drawing for a variety of prizes, including a GPS activity tracker, gift cards and prizes from our various local sponsors.
Thursday, MAY 4
May 4 Temple Emanuel Environmental Movement Movie Night
7:00 p.m. | Film: TBD | Temple Emanuel (201 Oakwood Drive, Winston-Salem) | Free
Join the Temple Emanuel Environmental Movement's monthly movie night for a screening of a series of documentary shorts about efforts to make cities more bicycle friendly and encourage people to ride for transportation and recreation. There will be a discussion with the City's Bicycle & Pedestrian Coordinator after the film to discuss recent efforts to make Winston-Salem more bicycle friendly.
Saturday, MAY 6
Electric Bike Forum and Ride
8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. | Triad Eco Adventures (176 YWCA Way) | $25 electric bike rental
Is Winston-Salem too hilly to ride a bike? Join Triad Eco Adventures and Gerhardt Cycles to learn everything you need to know about electric bikes. Local electric bike experts, retailers, and mechanics will be on hand to provide information about electric bikes and answer all of your questions about them. After the information session, those who reserve an electric bike will join Triad Eco Adventures on a guided tour of local streets and trails to get firsthand experience with electric bikes.

Wednesday, MAY 10
Innovation Quarter Bike Ride
Time: 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (ride begins at 11:45 a.m.) | Bailey Park (5th and Patterson)
Join employees of Inmar and the Innovation Quarter for a ride around the downtown area with a 3.9 mile route option and a 9.5 mile route option. Police officers on motorcycles will provide an escort for the ride. A limited number of lunchs will be served at 12:30 courtesy of Inmar and the Innovation Quarter to first 50 participants whom sign up at the link below. The MS Society will be on hand recruiting riders for the Tour to Tanglewood. Register at this link for the ride and lunch.
Cycle Your City and Clemmons Bike Shop will be available beginning at 11:00 a.m. to provide assistance and minor repairs on bicycles.
Saturday, MAY 13
Bike Safety Day
10:00 a.m. - 2 p.m. | Kaleideum Downtown (390 S. Liberty Street) | Free
This free, family-friendly event held outdoors is geared toward educating children about the importance of bicycle safety and wearing a properly fitted helmet. Bring your bike to the outdoor bicycle rodeo with the Winston-Salem Police Department Downtown Bike Patrol Unit. Families will have the opportunity to learn and demonstrate best practices with regard to safety gear and audio-visual awareness.
In the event of rain, activities will move indoors to the Library and Under the Stars, and entrance to these rooms will be free. To explore the rest of the Museum, admission will be charged.
8:30 p.m. | Bailey Park | Movie: Pee Wee's Big Adventure | Free
Ride your bike, bring a blanket, and join us in Bailey Park for a screening of Pee Wee's Big Adventure. People are encouraged to bike to the park for the Bike-In Movie, but everyone is welcome. Food Trucks will be on site beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, MAY 17
Baptist Medical Health and Fitness Day
9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. | Ardmore Cafeteria
Winston-Salem DOT staff will attend the annual Employee Health & Fitness Day to educate employees and guests about local opportunities for cycling and walking, including information on safe cycling, active transportation laws, route selection, helmet fitting, and more.
Ride of Silence
Gather at 6:45 p.m., ride leaves at 7:00 p.m. | Foothills Brewing Company (638 W. 4th Street)
Join cyclist from the Winston-Salem area on a 7.5 mile route through the city to honor cyclists who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roads. Not everyone is aware of the rights, or even the presence, of cyclist on the roads and the International Ride of Silence was created to help address those issues and raise awareness of safe cycling. The Winston-Salem Police Department will provide an escort for the ride, which will end with a celebration and social hour at Foothills Brewing Company.

Forsyth Off Road Bike Association Tanglewood Park Mountain Bike Trail Work Day

Clemmons Pedal and Metal Fest 2017
11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. | Morgan Elementary School (3210 Village Point Drive, Clemmons)
Bring your bike/trike for scheduled rides around the Village Point Greenway with Mayor Nelson. Make sure you have a properly fitted helmet and have a professional bike check from Clemmons Bicycle to identify any service issues. our Touch a Truck will provide children a hands-on opportunity to see and touch an array of vehicles and heavy machinery, as well as meet the operators. Explore and discover emergency service vehicles, tractors, a hot rod, and more! Community partners will have games, kid's crafts, balloon artistry, and entertainment throughout the day. Make your own smoothie with a blender bike!
Bikes on Buses Event
11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. | Boys and Girls Club (2100 Reynolds Park Road)
Bring your bike to the Boys and Girls Club to learn how to load it on and off the bicycle racks found on the front of all WSTA buses. Bicycles are a great way to extend the range of the transit system, allowing riders to reach their destinations quicker than by walking to and from the bus stop. Information about the recently restructured transit routes and all of the opportunities for cycling in Winston-Salem will also be available.
Winston-Salem Cycling Classic
The Winston-Salem Cycling Classic is a two-day professional cycling event, consisting of professional road races, criteriums, and a full schedule of USA Cycling sanctioned amateur racing.
