News and Updates

Important Notice Effective September 4, 2012

Credit Card Acceptance Policy

The City of Winston-Salem accepts debit and credit (“bank”) card payments for a wide variety of goods and services. The city absorbs the card company and banking fees without charging the customer a convenience fee in order to encourage the use of internet and other electronic forms of payment.

Recently, large companies have implemented the use of bank cards to pay bills owed to the city. This has significantly increased the cost of bank card acceptance. In order to control these costs, the city is implementing limits on the amounts and number of transactions that can be paid using bank cards. Effective September 4, 2012, the city will only accept bank card payments up to a total of $2,500 in any thirty-day period. A limit of ten transactions per bank card per thirty-day period will apply. Checks and cash are always acceptable forms for payment. If you were to have additional questions, please contact the Revenue office at ((336)747-6954

Effective as of March 1, 2012, permits for New Residential Single Family Construction requires posting of the Energy Efficiency Certificate [pdf/182kb/1p].

Congratulations to Mark Tighe as the winner of the “Core Values” category during the Employee Excellence Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, January 30, 2013!  This is the first time since 1987 that someone from our department has won a City-wide Employee Award. Also, congratulations to Alex Ellis for his nomination as a finalist in the “Outstanding Supervisor” category and Onnie Pleasant for being nominated in the "Core Values" category. Great job! As a department, we are proud of  you!

Bill LongCongratulations to Bill Long, Employee of the Year 2012!
Bill won this honor because he is always willing to help others, always on time for work (early actually). He works hard, is courteous and efficient, always friendly, gets along well with everyone, very knowledgeable of his job and Inspections as a whole and most important, works with a "team spirit" attitude.
Again, congratulations Bill and keep up the good work.

Onnie Pleasant, 1st Qtr Customer Service Award WinnerCONGRATULATIONS to our 1st Quarter Customer Service Award Winner, Onnie Pleasant. Onnie is what we would consider the "mother" of our department. She always has a smile no matter what we ask of her. One of our co-workers wrote, "She is great!" She has such a great personality and willingness to help at all times. She always goes over and beyond the call of duty to make sure the need is taken care of at all times. Not only does she demonstrate these remarkable qualities, but she has a pleasant demeanor with all she is around. She consistently displays all four keys to Customer Service. Onnie, we have to say, "You are the best." We thank you for all you do.

WS City Stars of Excellence [pdf80kb/1p] names one of our own, Mark Tighe, as a finalist.

Mark Tighe, InspectionsCongratulations to the Three Semifinalists Mark Tighe (Inspections) - Mark was nominated by a co-worker who wrote, "He took it upon himself to take all the training and classes to become state-certified as a continuing education instructor for classes required in the electrical industry to renew licenses and inspector's certifications every three years.  Mark provides, at his own expense, classes for all inspectors so that we might maintain our certification at no cost to the city.  He offers these classes to all of our local contractors and industry professionals for free as well. Since this is the 8th quarter in which Mark has done so, his efforts exemplify consistent service excellence."
